However, a lightening fast getaway from Verstappen saw him take lead at the start ahead of Hamilton and his team mate Sergio Perez. The Dutch racer held that lead for much of the afternoon, but that was not without pressure from Hamilton.

Along with that, the contest for third place was just as dramatic, as the McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo battled with the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. But who would win out in the battle for midfield supremacy?
